Aslina Wines

Aug 17, 2022 | Winery of the Month

Ntsiki Biyela grew up in a rural village in KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa.  After working for a year as a domestic worker, she was awarded a scholarship to study winemaking at Stellenbosch University.  She worked as a winemaker for a few years but had the ambition to create her own wines, influenced by her experiences during harvests in Tuscany and Bordeaux.

Ntsiki’s beloved grandmother, Aslina, was the guiding light in her life and it became obvious that her new brand should be named after her grandmother, in the matriarch’s honour.  Aslina Wines was born.

Not only have Ntskiti’s wines won numerous awards.  She has been celebrated with many accolades for her role in paving the way for others by eliminating barriers, setting an example and inspiring others, and having an overall influence on the image of the South African wine industry.
